Background
For several years, RFID has been a hot topic, both in the electronics industry as well as several other market segments. While some (e.g. Wal-Mart, DoD) are making significant investments to implement RFID, to date the hype of this technology is way ahead of the delivered benefits to any industry segment. Skeptics argue that RFID is analogous to an expensive barcode and may never reach the promised return on investment and, therefore, never achieve broad deployment. Others believe that RFID will continue to struggle until a "killer application" is demonstrated (i.e. one that would be a significant disruptive force on industry). All agree that significant work is needed to improve the technology (including cost reduction) and to build the infrastructure required to make RFID ubiquitous.
Objectives
The purpose of this meeting is to:
- Understand current "state of the industry" for RFID
- Identify key barriers (both strategic & tactical) that are limiting adoption
- Understand vision of potential of RFID to be a major disruptive force on the electronics industry
- Identify iNEMI collaborative efforts that can close gaps and accelerate deployment
Intended audience
- Key decision-makers for deployment of RFID technology (across supply chain)
- Industry thought-leaders for RFID from both the technology and application point of view (current & future)
- Early adopters of RFID
Benefits of participation
By participating in this meeting you will gain an understanding of RFID in terms of its current capabilities as well as the experiences of early adapters. You will also interact with key RFID thought-leaders and gain insights into the likely future impact of this important technology on the electronics industry. In addition, you can help shape the proposed collaborative projects that will close the identified business and technical gaps. All of this can influence the strategy and investments of your company as it considers its future plans for RFID.
