This project developed requirements for allowable surface defects, such as scratches, pits, and contamination in Cleanliness Specifications for Single-Mode Connectors.  The effort resulted in the development of Cleanliness Specifications for Single-Mode Connectors with 2.5- and 1.25-mm Ferrules and the publication of IPC-8497-1, Cleaning Methods and Contamination Assessment for Optical Assembly.
