INEMI Participates in IPEF Critical Minerals Dialogue

INEMI shares information about sustainability and circularity efforts at IPEF Critical Minerals Dialogue on Recycling and Recovery meeting.

In November of 2023, the United States and 13 partner countries announced key outcomes to fuel inclusive, sustainable growth as part of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) to create a stronger, fairer, more resilient economy for families, workers, and businesses in the United States and in the Indo-Pacific region.

As part of this framework, the IPEF Critical Minerals Dialogue is focusing on supporting U.S. expansion and development of the full critical mineral supply chain – from mining to processing – through efforts to strengthen the competitiveness and diversification of IPEF critical mineral supply chains. Recycling and recovery of materials is one of four workstreams under the IPEF Critical Minerals Dialogue, and the U.S. Department of State is reaching out to trade associations focused on critical mineral and e-waste recycling to participate in meetings that include presentations and discussions among invited trade associations regarding their views on recycling of critical minerals, including the role of government.

Mark Schaffer, INEMI Project Manager and Sustainable Electronics Lead, was one of three presenters at the third technical experts meeting of the IPEF Critical Minerals Dialogue on Recycling and Recovery. In this virtual meeting, held September 10, Mark shared information about INEMI's efforts in sustainability and circularity. He was joined by Renata Arsenault of the National Alliance for Advanced Transportation Batteries (NAATBaE) International and Dan Bowerson from the Alliance for Automotive Innovation. Download a copy of Mark's presentation.

Additional information about IPEF and its various lines of effort, including the Critical Minerals Dialogue, is available online.
